The First Electric Razor | Shaving Made Cool

March 18 - On this date in history: Schick Inc. marketed the first electric razor. I know! Very exciting! Without this amazing invention there would be no such thing as vintage electric razors.

There are not a lot of reports on the quality of the first electric razor. But it's safe to guess. There was no after-shave, so there must have been a lot of men walking around with throats. As far as Schick goes, even the ladies were taken care of with a model of their own: Lady Schick. You can see some prime examples below.

It's also likely that the shaver did not offer a "close" shave - as razors of today claim to offer. Most had cords. But at least the shaver didn't need messy shaving cream and a dangerous razor that needed to be replaced or sharpened. Ultimately, this new shaving tool led to the cordless, rechargeable, products that could be used in a car, or your employer's restroom. In any case, vintage razors are cool, and relatively inexpensive. Take a look...

Dear Sir
I have an electric razor that was produced by Racine Motor Co. in the 1940′s.It is in excellent condition and still works.Who would be the one to determine it’s value,or what would be your guess.Your input would be most helpful.Thank you.

Hi Bruce – I think eBay’s “Completed Listings” are a good way to get an idea of how much a certain item might bring. Use eBay’s search box to search for the exact razor you have, and once you see the search results, click the Completed Listings link on the left side of the page. That will give you two weeks worth of results.
The other way is by using a site called Terapeak. You can search over more time and get more details by using their free tool at: http://www.terapeak.com/click.php?act=38584-4635
