May 14 - On this date in 1998, the last episode of Seinfeld aired to an estimated 76 million viewers. It was the third most viewed season finale ever, coming in after M*A*S*H* and Cheers.
Jerry Seinfeld was reportedly offered $5 million per episode to keep the series alive, but declined. He wanted the show to go out on top. Many felt it had suffered in later seasons due to the departure of co-creator Larry David. This series was a catch-phrase factory. Just watch the video for some great Seinfeld moments (set to the tune of Time is Tight by Booker T. and the MGs).
In a sad twist, the final episode of Seinfeld aired on the exact same day passed away. Some speculate that event may have dampened the viewer's spirit a bit and caused the number of watchers to be lower.
Buying and Selling Seinfeld Merchandise
The complete Seinfeld series is available on DVD. They sell quite well on both Amazon and eBay. On eBay, the sell-through rate is 63% over the past 30 days, with an average sale price of $114.78. And you can even get the special "Coffee Table" edition of the complete series once in awhile. As you can see, the box has little legs that fold out into a coffee table, like Kramer's famous coffee table book.
Seinfeld Reunion?
Rumor has it that there may be a reunion of the Seinfeld cast in 2009. Early in March 2009, it was announced that the Seinfeld cast would reunite on Larry David's HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm. Details of the plot have not been released, but it has been confirmed that the entire cast will appear alongside Larry David over multiple episodes. This would be the first time the central cast appeared together in a scripted show since Seinfeld went off the air.
